Hi Doug,

Can you advise me, what is the current sentence for the crime of treachery in Australia?
While you are looking that up, can you please see what the going rate for Industrial Espionage is too?

Thank you for your time in this endeavour.

Alluvium,

may I endeavour to help Doug out with this using a popular source readers can check.

For a violation of trust, see “betrayal”.

“Treachery” is a statutory offence in Australia. (There was also an unrelated statutory offence bearing that name in the United Kingdom, but it has been abolished.) Both of these offences were derived from or inspired by the related offence of treason. The name treachery was chosen because it is a synonym for treason.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treachery

CRIMES ACT 1914 - SECT 24AA

"Treachery"

 http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/cth/consol_act/ca191482/s24aa.html

A person who contravenes a provision of this section shall be guilty of an indictable offence, called treachery.
Penalty:  Imprisonment for life.

Hi Alluvium, I am NOT Doug but here is some stuff you & others might find interesting.

Industrial Espionage

A good read, especially this part ...... "5. Agents and the process of collection"

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_espionage

Industrial espionage laws - Is protecting trade secrets & business intelligence good for the economy?

         http://www.aic.gov.au/media/1999/march/990330.aspx   (last revised / modified 2009)

Industrial espionage: criminal or civil remedies

Dempsey discusses whether existing Australian legal safeguards against industrial espionages are adequate, or whether the greater use of criminal sanctions, such as those introduced in the United States of America, might be more appropriate.

No trouble when these are interesting questions in todays detector world Alluvium.
Its a wild and unpredictable place where you Can't see the Wood for the Trees sometimes!

Would you have preferred His Greater Honour (His Highest Lordship Doug) to have answered your legal questions? Ie were they specifically directed at him or for anyone who knew (or could find out) to answer?
An answer is an answer (a truth is a truth) no matter who the messenger is, or who delivers it on forums to me.

Pleased to be of some assistance in your (our) quest for justice and answers.
