You can call me a bit thick but after searching for weeks and fighting a wife and two daughters for access to this computer I just realised I can't view sections of the forum that I could view when I first joined.
Ive read the rules and the "Welcome to the Australian Electronic Gold Prospecting Forum " section and it doesn't mention anything about this. The forum index lists forums that are available to registered members so why cant I see them ?

Any ideas people ?

Some members like your self are placed in a restricted membership category.
I have added this to:Welcome to the Australian Electronic Gold Prospecting Forum
At my discretion some members may be placed in a restricted membership category where they do not have access to some boards.

HI DOUG- perhaps it would be helpful to explain to new members the reasons for this and what criteria they need to meet to validate full membership to avoid confusion or disappointment.

Well some of this has come about because some members here are copying and pasting posts from this forum into other forums (and often editing them to suit their own purposes!) as a means to attack and denigrate members here or the forum in general! This is also the reason that i have now closed almost all the forum to visitors and guests! I have to  make decisions like this in what I consider to be a best interests of the forum.

HI DOUG- all present members realise this but i meant maybe a brief description to new applicants with their welcoming e-mail... something along the lines of full membership will be granted after "x" amounts of posts by them and further rights are dependant on their behaviour, etc just so they know from the outset what is expected from them... just kicking ideas around that might help new applicants better understand the process!

Hi Doug,

I agree with Dusty that members (and guests who wish to become contributing rather than passive members) should know what is expected of them wrt behaviour, posts, abuse etc.

I was looking at Gypsy's forum this morning and saw the Rules & Terms of Use. It fills a whole page and I commend her for its quality & standards. I recommend something like that to you. I doubt it would be barrier to membership BUT it is a barrier to bad behaviour. If Finders had the same if would be a much better place. I believe a hot link is the way to go with the hotlink shown on the welcome page.

Here is what it could contain (based on Gypsy's Forum. Best under different headings like she does it looks tidy and focuses attention better.

RULES & TERMS OF USE for AEGP

Member Behaviour (respect, conjecture & fact, profanity, abuse, lies etc)

Moderation Policy (your rules as the moderator)

Account Policy (number & use of nicks, identity theft, ISP etc)

Copyright, Advertising, Slander/Libel, Linking & Other Legal Matters

I would have a look except that I have been banned from the the forum! ::54::
I note that 2 admins of gypsys forum are members here and have not been banned!

Doug, Can't see that is a problem as you have hot links on the "Electronics" and "Gold Deposits" Forum Boards on the front welcome page page.

Posting rules etc would look tidier if hot linked OR included off the welcome board, not detailed on it, as a tidy but complete description (as Gypsy has done). Just my view.

Cheers Huego

I still don't have the rules for gypsy's forum because I am banned there! Maybe a member there can ask if I could upload a copy to this forum and if yes send them to me?

You would have to seek authorisation from Gypsy to use them as is, or even display them Doug I would say.

But, I can't imagne anyone objecting to using these rules as a TEMPLATE and adjust them to suit yourself.

AS I said I like them and like their layout, it encourages reading.

Hi Doug
I'm not sure what I have done but I notice that my name is in Red and I have restrictions on where I can access?
Could I please have an explanation.
The only reason I can think of is either I have not contributed a post as yet or that you have me  confused with another person. (There are a couple of people who have the name "Ric" on different forums)
I am Ric or AlluvialRic from the Alluvial gold forum and was invited to join this forum by yourself. I am not the Ric from the other forums.

Would appreciate being able to access the whole forum.
You can respond to my email address if you wish.
Cheers Ric
