Bill,

This one would be light enough for a bike;

Hi Bill,

When dragging a large coil using a quad bike, place a (heavy duty) switch in line on the wiring lead coming from the alternator to the battery.

Switch to the off position when detecting and you will not have any interference problems.
Don't forget to switch it back on for a run to charge the battery after detecting.

You can also use clip on suppressors to any other wiring still making interference.
These can be obtained from Jaycar electronics.

Note; If dragging a large coil on a rubber mat you will get static electrical interference.

The use of the older SD 2200 model on tow coils, is less noisy than the GP / GPX series.

Cheers  Alluvium.

Wont turning off the alternator cause problems to the electrics of the bike.?
fitting a large capacitor across the battery should filter out any stray AC or you could buy a heavy duty supression  system from any audio shop to do the same thing. burning out the alternator by puting a switch to turn it off is like runing it with no battery contected on your car. its not recomended.

I've got a pic of a nice tow system made with poly but how do you post pics?

Hi Bill,

If you are going to run a SD 2200 or any later model use Tracking.

Tracking should achieve G/Balance for you.
When testing you can use nuggets placed on top of the ground first up.
I put a circle of luminous spray marker paint around each piece, for ease of spotting them.
Try towing the coil over each size nugget slowly at first, then at different speeds to see the results.

Then maybe bury them at 4 to 6"inches, with a marker above, so that you can run over them easily.
We tried on the coil edges on both sides, as well as the center.

When I tested my setup, it went very well and even at a fast speeds.
Doing this in a paddock I kept getting a signal, at the same point.
Every time the quad was turned to run back over the targets.

When this spot was located roughly with the tow coil.
Then using a 4500 running an 18"in mono coil, a nice 7gram nugget was found at 12 to 14"inches
This was a good bonus for the first trial.

Cheers  Alluvium.
