Australian Parliament - Petition for Climate Change Action

Not sure if you will allow this. It is political, but is not party political. Not much of what we say about climate change is apolitical. Its the nature of Climate Change research and any appeal for ACTION. I am NOT "rattling the cage" of rules or testng your patience.. but this IS an important course of action

This relates to an official petition appealing DIRECTLY to Australian Govt (lower house) for action on climate change. It has over 270,000 signatures when last I looked. Its good until closing date on Oct 16.

Unlike other advocacy groups, this one is for parliament, meaning they will debate it if they get the signature numbers.
When signing, I suggest you make sure you do the last step, verifying your email.
I've checked the validity of the aph (Aust Parliament House) link to the petition

Our Reason: The overwhelming majority of climate scientists around the world have concluded that the climate is changing at unprecedented rates due to anthropogenic causes. The result of these changes will be catastrophic for future generations, and so we must act now to minimise both human and environmental destruction.

Our Request: We therefore ask the House to immediately act and declare a climate emergency in Australia. And introduce legislation that will with immediacy and haste reduce the causes of anthropogenic climate change.

Once signed...What happens next?

Once the signature period has closed, the petition will be presented to the House of Representatives by the Chair of the Petitions Committee or a Member of Parliament and will become a record of the House. Thy will also organise it to be sent to the Minister responsible. Any response received from the Minister will be available with the petition on the website.

If you would like any further information on the petition process more generally, please refer to the petitions website at
