Hi all,

Just thought I would share a few pics of what I found a couple of three years ago on Garden Island.
These pics show commander buttons of a tunic that either belongs to Commander Dance or Commander Curry.

For those that don’t know Garden Island was where the first free settlement was established on the west coast of WA in 1829 although Captain Stirling had sussed out the site on his first visit in 1827 and to return in 1829 to set up the colony.

Captain Stirling established his quarters above Cliff Head and the officers slightly below his quarters, further north approximately 3 to 400 meters was where Sulphur Town was set up.

It was where the officers were encamped and where I had located the buttons, they were approximately eighteen inches down or 45-46 cm, soil type the usual coastal sand.
Detector used was the SD2000 Modified.

Cheers,
             Trevor.
