Hello all, first post here and I hope this hasn't been covered a million times before.
I live at Kiama on the south coast of NSW and am after a detector suitable for beach combing plus being able to take it into the shallows.

I've looked at the minelab excaliber, are there any other fully water proof detectors from other makers?

Thanks in advance.

Hi John
Were ever you buy your detector, take a excalibur with a aftermarket strait shaft, like the anderson one.
The trick on the beach is speed, with a pi you have to dig everything with a litle extra dept.
The at pro is not that good on saltwater beaches.
Kind regarts from Holland

Thankyou Gerrit.
So far from my limited research I do like the Excalibur, I don't like the price though.
I had a go of my friends and found it a bit heavy on the beach but in the water it was fine.

I want to steer away from batteries and would rather a rechargable battery pack.

I bought a Snoop off Ebay and what a waste of money that was!

Hi John
I waterhunt in a great part off europe, mostly freshwater in a drysuit.
All salt beach hunting i dit, was only the dry part with a sovereign elite.
On the salt dry, the most people i know, use a disk setting so you only dig the coins.
As i told before, speed is the trick specialy on the dry.
I stil don't understand minelab in a way they disign the overweight excalibur.
There are a couple off company's who makes strait shaft's for the excalibur
the differens is unbelieveble, makes it as light as a feather.
The rechargeble battery pack's are good, but very expensive, I allway's have two and a regular battery pack with me.
As for a beach scoop, there are some great scoops on the globe, for the dry I use a short handle wire frame one and for the wet
I use a couple, depends on, iff its sand, gravel or clay.
The price, mine was payed in three weeks included battry pack's and scoop's
Regards

Thankyou Doug for the links. More food for thought but sometimes I wish there was only one so the choice wouldn't be so hard.

Cheers John

John what ever brand you buy make sure they will support their machine if it breaks down , double check that for second hand units .

Try emailing them to ask about  help first   help
