Huego also said ........

Tell you what Owen & your Flounder mates........

the shovel, as an old & proven design (with or without gold pans), has found MUCH more gold than ALL the ML designs ....... crikey, and all without ANY PATENTS, spin or Batteries!!

 bye bye

"swooped past" using, and based on, the "borrowed knowledge" of others??   confused

Some time ago I remember reading that ML were alledgedly quoted in GG&T magazine as saying that future models would be firmware upgrades.
Does anyone have access to that article and date and could they scan it and send me a copy please.

I am wanting to establish a date when this concept was put in the public domain.

Mate I remember that with the SD series  ... but I do remember it.....
What date... dont knows ...

It was not quoted by Minelab, It was quoted by a customer, I would have it around somewhere.
but hey, the guy is likely to be a member here, among the other whinger's.
Have a look around! ::81::

Nup pretty sure it was a Minelab article ..

One thing is for sure and that is myself  and I believe many others were under the impression or were led to believe that ML would  do modular upgrades on existing detectors.

HI GANG- unless i'm wrong (who me ::55::) i think bugwhisker's was trying to establish whether the idea of an upgradable detector had been put in the public by minelab and that would be the basis for a spoiler challenge against the QED's innovative (for detector's) lead into the future.

it would also be interesting to note if the contents of that exchange also had any denials about minelab heading in that direction from any company reps or dealers.

bugwhisker's i'm a meathead end user with no legal background whatsoever but my gut feeling is if that situation was to be tried on it would only serve as a delaying tactic at best and that minelab or whoever
else tried it on could be countered too easily.... christ what next- ya can't replace diodes because it's been done before lol.

nah, go and have a beer mate and let the other mobs do the worrying ::38::

cheer's- dusty!! happy face

Hi dustyminer,

The QED gets around the patent by users entering new timing data via the front panel encoders.
Making changes to detector settings via front panel switches, knobs and dials is so obvious that not even the most arrogant company would try to secure a patent on it.

As to the GG&T article, let's just wait and see if something emerges before further comment.

It is interesting that Minelab started a prospecting magazine (GG&T) back in early 1980's. What a wonderful tool to push their products.
It was acquired by another company but of course now they use prospecting forums as a covert marketing tool. The media tentacles have spread.

Not using the detectors existing audio stream for the user adjustment interface is just plain "dumb"
