Some software and hardware updates now available for the QED.More  QED firmware updates (inc Auto GB  option) just announced here. New  QED hardware updates/options and pictures will be posted  first here  as they become available.

Another satisfied QED user! QED user report for 9 days detecting! User loves it, found it easy to use, found gold with it and he prefers it to his 5000! Also a report on a QED used at the beach for coin shooting.QED users reporting in with their multi ounce gold finds with the QED!
From  another QED user today:"Been out and about today testing and comparing against other machines etc in ground that has been horrible in the past.Bround balancing Ive found very simple and easy.'m using the Nokia booster but need a little more sound/threshold.Otherwise no complaints from me, very impressed."
and :"My QED with the 8” commander on it, out performed my SDC Got bits that don't register on my scales SDC has since been sold"
"My QED is terrific. Lightweight, very sensitive and screams at me when it hits any target. The Detect shaft and the 11" ultra sensing coil is a top quality fitout. I attached an external speaker which added under 200gms of weight in total and still remains very well balanced so i never feel fatigued after many hours of swinging."

Stinky  Pete :http://www.detech-metaldetectorsaustralia.com.au/  and Goldsearch Dunolly are the  Australian distributors for the QED.
This is the only forum where you can talk directly with the designer/ manufacturer of the QED and  also some very experienced QED users.
Jrbeatty and Reg Wilson  and  Yellowfin  (or Doug here for that matter!)have NO vested  or pecuniary interests(or secret deals or cash for comment or any other undisclosed benefits )in the QED other than using it to find gold which it is doing very successfully! The ONLY people deriving  an income from the QED(other than finding good gold) are the 2 approved retailers and Bugwhiskers! The ONLY investor in the QED is Bugwhiskers!
I have never met Jrbeatty or Reg Wilson at Howards house or ANY other location!

....thanks HD .... The UV LEDs were $9 for 400 on eBay the resistors were $2 and the perf board was a buck. Power supply is 500 ma at 5 volts ....exposure time is 2 minutes and 20 seconds.

Good job Moodz.  How long do you think it will be before we get a report on how good it works?

The first test is the smoke test ... tonight !

the pic shows the front end next to a cpu board UNO32.

( I have a can of majik smoke for the half brain crew that I picked up cheap at a joke shop ... they buy their self esteem there so i know its the real deal  )

"majik smoke"(tm)???

I thought, you can burn incense to get that majik smoke.

But hey!, wait!, I think, the solder wire could be an alternate to the incense.
Of course, not as good as majically smoking parts (resistors, transistors, capacitors, PCB, IC's, etc.).

....hooked up to 3.5 amp switch mode. Signal chain amps tested to 44 volts DC  ...  and no smoke.  good luck

Pic below shows tank capacitors soldered in place  excited

Next test ... the coil .... flyback damping test. ... which I won't get done tonight.  Scream

....the surface mount version of the circuit has much better performance and lower noise ...

pic shows damping result with the spider wound 18 inch litz coil ...better than 2.5 us damping performance at 2.5 amp  peak current ... keeping the current low to keep the smoke in while I am testing. excited

the green trace is the mosfet gate drive ... the white trace is the amped output.

The 6 inch test bench coil is wound with 1 mm magnet wire and because of the bulk winding and self eddies it self detects .... its OK for checking but I won't use it for the money shot performance checks.

I guess the ole 18 inch spider coil is a winner  ....

....increase the coil current to 7.1 amps peak and the damping time blows out to just over 5 us. However the sensitivity to big nuggs is increased ... prob due to longer Tx time now.  excited  Pic shows the gate switch and damped waveform.

Heeeeyyy Moodz,

could you make an anti-fly-sh!t detector please? Something opposite to the SDC2300. And coils up to 30" - 40" size.
Something like the deeeeeeep buried monster nugget detector.
I appreciate your effort.

....he he ...because I am a good customer my supplier has sent me two new high speed MOSFET devices with 35 amps and 4 pf output capacitance and very high voltage rating. Switching speed is 10 ns. I know exactly the monster nugg circuit these will go into. scared  cheers and beers.

Cheers Moodz,

what is the parts name please?
I want to know it because I'll never get it. It's probably a critical military part, which could be used to ignite (mini) nukes. (C4 + Pu implosion design)
(see here    )
Oh yeah, I never should have mentioned the thermo-nuclear melt-down  thing..
Wait, someone is knocking at my door...
*LOL*

Surface mount board of complete moodz detector is done.

...lighting up complete the board ....and it works.

... high speed bluetooth link is operational .... enabling ( patent pending ) distributed processing technique ...

Software Defined Metal Detector.  Having a hardware component and a software component and one or more numerical processing units or CPUs interconnected by means of a plurality of physical or wireless communication channels to form a distributed processing system allowing the creation of a virtual detector encompassing a larger volume of target detection space than the detection volume of the constituent detection elements.

Thats a secret Doug ... however I won't try to patent a microprocessor with a communication link ....
