Some software and hardware updates now available for the QED.More  QED firmware updates (inc Auto GB  option) just announced here. New  QED hardware updates/options and pictures will be posted  first here  as they become available.

Another satisfied QED user! QED user report for 9 days detecting! User loves it, found it easy to use, found gold with it and he prefers it to his 5000! Also a report on a QED used at the beach for coin shooting.QED users reporting in with their multi ounce gold finds with the QED!
From  another QED user today:"Been out and about today testing and comparing against other machines etc in ground that has been horrible in the past.Bround balancing Ive found very simple and easy.'m using the Nokia booster but need a little more sound/threshold.Otherwise no complaints from me, very impressed."
and :"My QED with the 8” commander on it, out performed my SDC Got bits that don't register on my scales SDC has since been sold"
"My QED is terrific. Lightweight, very sensitive and screams at me when it hits any target. The Detect shaft and the 11" ultra sensing coil is a top quality fitout. I attached an external speaker which added under 200gms of weight in total and still remains very well balanced so i never feel fatigued after many hours of swinging."

Stinky  Pete :http://www.detech-metaldetectorsaustralia.com.au/ is the  Australian distributor for the QED.
This is the only forum where you can talk directly with the designer/ manufacturer of the QED and  also some very experienced QED users.
Jrbeatty and Reg Wilson  and  Yellowfin  (or Doug here for that matter!)have NO vested  or pecuniary interests(or secret deals or cash for comment or any other undisclosed benefits )in the QED other than using it to find gold which it is doing very successfully! The ONLY people deriving  an income from the QED(other than finding good gold) are the approved retailer and Bugwhiskers! The ONLY investor in the QED is Bugwhiskers!
I have never met Jrbeatty or Reg Wilson at Howards house or ANY other location!

Yep, very nice and well done. Some forum-trolls are green with envy. So it must be a very relevant thing (a Mr. "Can't do" killer).
happy face

Looking forward to seeing more field test results.

I really like seeing someone other than a big company coming up with an design that works and that may be as good as if not better than a commercial model.

Software Defined Metal Detector.  Having a hardware component and a software component and one or more numerical processing units or CPUs interconnected by means of a plurality of physical or wireless communication channels to form a distributed processing system allowing the creation of a virtual detector encompassing a larger volume of target detection space than the detection volume of the constituent detection elements.

Perfect project, moodz!!!

Software Defined Metal Detector is killer approach to metal detecting. Proper coil, right front end and processing unit connected by communication links to active parts of a front end. Maximizing software solutions, easy to change, upgrade, test new ideas, logging of field testing and welt of other possibilities.
With my computer background (since 1979) I am convinced, your (as I know) approach to the problem is the future.
I am sure that field testing and experience from it will show full power of SDMD.
At the end SDMD could be configured with some script to adapt to any possible situation (coil, front end, terrain) with minimum external commands.

Nice work indeed. Congrats!

Hi Moodz,

It appears you are PM proofed.

Anyway I have been quietly watching your work on this detector for some years and would be happy to help (for free!) with any plastic you may want laser cut (up to 10mm thick and 1000mmx1000mm) or anything you may want 3D printed (up to about 280mm diameter and 400mm tall). If you give me any sketches with dimensions or a concept you may want fulfilled I can get it done for you.

Just thinking about your coils / special mounts / plastic doodads etc.

Yes, this is a suck up to try to get an in, but also it would be fun to be a little involved with such an awesome project so it is of zero obligation to you.

PM me, Cheers, azulene ;-)
