Bob,

Came across the Vintage Detector Forum when I did a search for what you are looking for. I see they are discontinued but lots of users speak highly of them.

http://members6.boardhost.com/classicdetector/msg/1272416249.html

You could advertise your needs there?

Here is a link to some U-max reviews & a place to find comments on a wide range of detectors also,

Thanks for the links Huego , I may give advertising a go , only problem with buying from the U.S. is most don't like to ship  outside the U.S.

I recently bought a mint used Tesoro Tejon from a dealer in Texas , did try to buy a new one but he informed me that Due to international dealer agreements they can only ship New Tesoro's to Canada and Mexico.

That Tejon I bought would have cost  $1100 new to buy here from the Australian dealer 'Yet ' they sell new in the U.S. for  $ 559  !   ::55::

Cheers Bobby.

Bobby,

Apart from the 10% GST & shipping cost here, I wonder if the local dealers apply a much higher mark-up (profit margin) like over 100% because the volume of sales & buys from the Tesoro factory / supplier is much smaller with an Australian market? Gotta be a reason like that.
Most buyers find ways around these dealer agreements through friends in US.

I am sure you will find what you're looking for eventually,

Cheers, Huego

I think the price our local dealers pay Wholesale would be the same as dealers in the States , sure there is the shipping cost + GST  ,  But add the lot up to work out their rough profit percentage always allowing  individual business costs .

No wonder buying on-line is booming these days  ::38::

Cheers Bobby.

P.S. Ask Doug to give you some extra stars ' being a senior member !! happy face

Bobby,

if their costs are about the same, including their wholesale costs, are their any tariffs applied to US exports or Aust imports? Probably not as they are no challenging industries or jobs here or there to protect.

Sooooo, the UNAVOIDABLE CONCLUSION is that Australian dealers are applying BIG markups (profits) presumably because of the small volume market here.

Yes, it may explain the online shopping boom that is happening. Costs are far lower for online shopping (mostly in stock & warehousing).

Hi Heugo ,

The Yanks have woke up  , the moment one of these pops up  Its Sold !

I have just imported a Tejon ,  used as the dealers are not allowed to sell out of specified areas .

We had some big rain for sure , most of the town is OK , the surrounding desert is going to have plant growth unseen for over 30 years .

Cheers Bobby.
