Don't get your hopes up for non ML after market coils for the SAD 7000
I would not get my hopes  up for  more non ML after market coils for the SAD7000
The reasons are as follows:
To get the coils to work they have to use Codan/ML  IP property which is contained in a chip in the coil lead. The software and coding in the chip is automatically protected by copyright and I believe cannot be legally used by another party without them obtaining a license from ML.
Does the  coil maker have this license?
An  adapter lead has to be  made by cutting the lead of an  existing ML coil to use these new coils.
So you can kiss your   warranty on   existing coil goodbye!
What will happen if your SAD7000 develops a fault when using these coils? I doubt that ML  will honor the SAD 7000 warranty!
Also does anyone think that ML are going to allow a 3rd party to sell after market coils for the SAD7000 when they have spent so many  R@D dollars and time on the coils and may well in the future wish to come out with their own new range of coils.

I see that this post has been uploaded to the golddetecting forum. The response from "Davsgold" ignores a couple of points. Firstly will ML honor the SAD7000 warranty if the SAD7000 develops a fault when using these coils?
Secondly with any other of ML platforms like the gp/gpx as long as the coils have the correct resistance and inductance and the plugs are wired correctly they will work fine and they do not require any coil/lead contained firmware to work. ie no problems with ML/IP at all. However the SAD 7000 will only run coils that use ML/IP that is contained in the coil lead chip. Ie the coils will only work when  copyright  ML/IP firmware is used. So the after market coil maker  is taking advantage of  and using of ML's R@D for  their own commercial purposes without it appears having a license to do so.
I hope the coil maker has deep pockets because i would be most surprised if ML don't act to vigorously defend their IP rights!

The only way that the aftermarket SAD7000 coil maker could get away  with what he is doing is if the chip is an "off the shelf" non programmable readily obtainable IC which i think is highly unlikely.
What is the purpose the of the chip in  the coil lead?Well i can only think of 2 possibilities.
1. Its is absolutely critical  for the correct  functioning of the SAD 7000
2. Its a means of preventing the use of any  other coil other than ML's.
Of course it could  be used to do both.
Perhaps the coil designer/maker could address these  2 possibilities?
It matters not that people are free to do what they want with their SAD7000.The key point is that the aftermarket coil maker  is obtaining potential future commercial profit by using ML IP.Without using this IP he would have NO coils available for the SAD7000!!!

Some on the knitting club forum just don;t  get it! Almost certainly cutting the coil lead will invalidate the coil warranty but we  still  have the question of what happens if SAD7000  develops  a fault when using these coils. Will ML still repair the  SAD7000 if it is under warranty? I doubt that ML will carry our any warranty repairs with a detector that has unauthorized modifications. Its even possible that they could refuse to repair any SAD7000  that uses these coils whether the SAD7000 is in the warranty period or not!!! Then the poor SAD7000 user is stuck with a $10,000 lemon!!!!  SAD

If SAD 7000 owners believe that the use of these coils will not effect the SAD7000 warranty then lets see a  written statement to this effect from Codan/ML!

Ps  cutting a coil lead and putting an extra plug on does the  change the  electrical properties of the coil cable and the hence the coil ie modifies the the detector!
