That last graph showing 2000 ICU beds used is concerning.  It means lots of people requiring ICU beds for other health reasons won't get one and will die.  400 Covid deaths - but how many other deaths that may have been avoided.

Similar scenario in Emergency Depts that are being so slowed down by the Covid precautions.

Australia has  available or can become available i believe well over 2000 ICU beds. Not sure how many ventilators we have although our initial flattening of the curve bought us more time to increase the number of ICU beds and ventilators.

The really critical thing in  all of this is the number of active cases. If the number of active cases was to suddenly explode to over  20,000 then Australia may not have enough ICU beds and ventilators and /or the number of ICU trained nurses/doctors, particularly if more and more health care professional become infected. One good thing is that the mortality rate in Australia for covid patients on ventilators is 23% which is still horrendous but much lower than the global average of about 50%.
