Has anyone used a QED on the beaches?
Dry sand and wet sand?

Thanks, sd220d Digger.

I think that BW  has. I think that he also can put a "beach timing" into the QED?

When is 1halfgram4three (a proven hacker and  village idiot!) going to stop telling lies on his “forum”?
Why is "the rat" too spineless and frightened to join this forum?

You would need a  very long  handled spade to dig out some of the targets!!

It was interesting to read on another forum that the latest MODE 16 (Beach Mode) for the QED, which operates with no Ground Balance, was then able to be used over wet salty ground at a beach.

Stinky Pete's video clip in this thread displays him operating the QED over wet ground at the beach however he does not mention if the QED was set in Mode 16 or if that QED had been updated with that particular mode.

Being able to operate without a GB should certainly produce the best depth.

My QED has been updated to Mode 15 as BW continues to develop this detector.

Gary.

Now that I have the "Beach" Mode 16 included I was curious as to what sort of extra depth this mode may produce compared to one of the other Modes 1-15. Therefore an in-house in-air test was setup with an 8" commander mono attached using the same set of settings except for the Mode.  I decided to compare Mode 15 to the Mode 16 using an 3 gram 9ct gold wedding ring as the test target. The result showed Mode 16 produced an extra 50% of air depth.

To add further to my result above using the gold wedding ring I also performed the same test using several other targets.

Here are those results using Mode 16:

On a 1.75 gram thin gold chain an extra 25%
On a 1926 3-pence coin an extra 25%
On a 1944 6-pence coin an extra 22%
On a 1950 shelling coin an extra 20%
On a 1919 one penny coin an extra 25%
On a $2 coin an extra 33%
On a $1 coin an extra 30%

Btw in regards to the gold wedding ring when the ring was tested edge on to the coil the result was an extra 28%.

Neither of the coins were tested edge on to the coil.

Thanks for those test results Gary.
When in MODE 16 the GB manual adjustment is still active and it can be used to adjust the sample delay. Lowering it from the default of 100 to 1 will decrease the sample delay by 2uS resulting in better detection distance on small items ie fine gold chains etc.
