Another satisfied QED user! QED user report for 9 days detecting! User loves it, found it easy to use,found gold with it and he prefers it to his 5000! Also a report on a QED used at the beach for coin shooting.QED users reporting in with their multi ounce gold finds with the QED! More QED users reporting in! QED users are reporting that they do not find "bias drift" an issue!
The QED pictured is backward compatible with the current QED and has been designed and made by a member here. The firmware and circuit are identical with the current version except for a change in the face plate and control box. Changing to this configuration will NOT void the warranty when performed by the control box designer as it has been endorsed, approved and authorized by the QED manufacturer. The 4th button will not work at this time as the  firmware update for that has not been created yet and when its available will be provided free of charge (other than postage costs)by BW. QED Detector ,latest updates board is only available to registered forum members.

Goldsearch Australia has been appointed the Australian Distributor for the QED. QED info on the Goldsearch website has been updated.
This is the only forum where you can talk directly with the designer/ manufacturer of the QED and  also some very experienced QED users.
Jrbeatty and Reg Wilson  and  Yellowfin  (or Doug here for that matter!)have NO vested  or pecuniary interests(or secret deals or cash for comment or any other undisclosed benefits )in the QED other than using it to find gold which it is doing very successfully!

Testing the Testers of MD in the Commercial World

Reading the comments about Coils & Metal detectors (MDs) highlights the nature of testing protocols for products & how they are marketed & promoted.  

Who is the selected MD tester / contractor working for & under what conditions?  

Obviously the one who pays him for the testing & report define what they want to know & the terms of the contract.
But what if the tester is also paid by a buying public (prospectors) through his business for selectively promoting or through a personal business which can bias or compromise his allegiences (through his contract or NDA) in public forums?

Imagine this scenario (adapted & arranged from a post on Finders) from a Non Discloure Agreement (NDA) between Tester (contractor) & MD (designer / MD maker) ....

The employer (MD company) defines or limits the terms of what or how & where the testing is done & (vitally) how results are even reported, confidentially or publicly (post release). To whose advantage are the findings? The manufacturer, the prospector / buyer or to the tester? Or, solely for the MD company and its marketing arm?

A MD manufacturer “asks" (ie expects) "the tester to praise anything he thinks is ready for production & can't be significantly improved” … “ready" (to produce & market?) assumes design & manufactuer can produce a largely fault free product ie QC & GMP are followed.  What product cant be "significantly improved"? None .. NONE. Maybe this preliminary assurance is what they need for a creative marketing department to work on.

A MD manufacturer “asks"(ie expects) the tester NOT to praise something just because they think it's what (the product owner) wishes to hear …. NOT because this "could leave them with a million dollars worth of useless stock", this comes from other mistakes. Eg giving the Marketing Dept  -15% to +15% variation in depth performance / an average 30% change (translated as "improvement"?).... Marketing have never been good at maths or facts!  smile

The egg on the face of a MD name, from Reg or many experienced prospectors (through rumor or forum) giving their frank & fearless opinions, can lead to a recall, discounting, a mod (eg the coil cover Reg made, an accessory eg a yellow ring, a dance sequence or worse, have been outcomes…. but there is never an apology or admission of fault.

So we have: "praise it" but "don’t tell us what you think we want to hear". But what we dont have is ……

"Just give us an honest appraisal (strengths & weaknesses, warts & all) without commercial hype of this product’s performance”. This can result in a product being delayed before release … some products are years in development (testing refining & retesting)… ask some here.

It is big question, if promo actors along with their screenwriters, could be even named MD Testers.

I sssume The Tester gets to negotiate that condition Gary. Perhaps its "FINDERS are KEEPERS", as long as they report ALL findings & details of MD settings, test site, target details, mass & depth, shape, ground conditions, weather conditions etc

I totally agree WM6.

You / we could argue they should be independent of benefits they may derive post testing.

Perhaps its hard to find independent (non aligned) testers nowdays? How do you reward them? Do they keep what they find? Give them the test or other product at no cost?
