I hear from a friend that the Victorian government is looking to increase national park areas substantially over the coming years and that a lot of those areas include goldfield regions, is this true?
How will it affect prospecting and tourism I wonder as quite a few townships rely on a reasonable portion of trade from both.

YES its true, our public gold fields are screwed, Also be aware that there is a separate greeny push to convert every State forest to a State park.

The instant any of the public land in the  Central West investigation is converted to a park, all public access and all legal recreation activities will be banned, Parks Victoria will be able to fence it all off
and close all the gates and keep all Australians out of the park.

The only access to the new park
and the only  recreation activities that the Australian public will be able to do in the new park is what Parks Victoria give you permission to do,
and they can charge a fee like they do in other parks,  this is unfair and un Australian.

Thanks 6666,

I didn't see the original post on VEAC, so its true then, what a crock.
Here in SA what little areas we do have to detect were State Forest but now largely privatized and basically the gates are shut on large areas.

Also read an article a few months back about a local council not being happy with people metal detecting on their beaches, pure BS, talk about political correctness!

I agree we must preserve heritage and protect the environment but sometimes I just shake my head and wonder....

Yes what the idiots dont understand is we pick up the drug needles and the jagged rusty bits of crap that the beach goers children  stand on and stick in their feet.

Really the Councils should be sued for health and safety violations for what dangerous objects they allow on their beaches.

I agree, it's all a bit hit and miss and if it wasn't for having access to some private land, I would give the hobby away.

Its a one way street for the greens and governments curtail to those who shout loudest.

National parks are  created to preserve existing biodiversity and ecosystems. But  i have not seen any peer reviewed scientific evidence  from comprehensive monitoring of  keystone species  that ANY parks are achieving this objective. They are paper parks only. The reasons for this are simple. Those that are managing the parks do not have the resources to manage them for conservation. The major threatening processes to our ecosystems are: lack of or inappropriate fire regimes, invasive species, habitat loss, climate change, illegal firewood collection, rubbish dumping and impacts from agriculture like herbicides , insecticides and nutrient runoff. Prospecting  as a major threatening process is way down down the list and is an easy target and makes some greens and the National Parks Association feel good and gives the false impression that the parks  will achieve their conservation objectives. Meanwhile  biodiversity continues to decline under the relentless assault of invasive species  and other impacts and  the do nothing land management  or ecosytem monitoring!!

What I like to quote is this
when the bushfires were burning the surrounding forests and bush  around Linton Victoria a few years ago, the DNRE ripped a fire break through the bush for a very long way destroying everything in the path of the bulldozers,
with total disregard with what they destroyed, trees, plants, animals anything they could clear, now if you added up all the minor disturbances that detectorists do in the bush across Victoria , it would not even add up to the destruction that the dozers made in the first meter of their fire break, a total joke on the greenies.

Any conservation that may be perceived as happening in any Victorian park is negated the instant a bush fire burns it to the ground,
for example when the recent bushfires burnt Kinglake to the ground (and my sisters house)

if you walked through the bush afterwards you would come across big piles of ash that used to be Kangaroos or wombats etc, and what does conservation prove, nothing except a waste of time and dead animals.

This bloody VEAC mob have released their planned changes to our public land.

If you want to keep our Goldfields In the November State Election do not vote GREEN OR ALP

VEAC’s Central West Investigation area includes areas of native
forest at the southern end of Australia’s Great Dividing Range .

The three blocks are the Mount Cole–Pyrenees
range, Wellsford forest and the Wombat
forest–Macedon area

As predicted All Victorians are being locked out of our public land if you want to do commercial timber
harvesting, new mining and exploration, domestic
firewood collection, prospecting and hunting

SEVERE restrictions on Four wheel driving, trail bike riding,
mountain biking, horse riding, car rallies, camping,
bee keeping, and dog walking

Quote
VEAC is aware that there is some concern in the
community about whether their access to public
land will be affected by the recommendations of this
investigation, if accepted by government. This report
is clear about which activities will be affected by the
draft recommendations, and they are fewer than is
often thought. Four wheel driving, trail bike riding,
mountain biking, horse riding, car rallies, camping,
bee keeping, and dog walking in specific designated
sites, can all be accommodated in national parks.
Some activities are affected by the recommended
changes however, mostly those that extract natural
resources from the forests: commercial timber
harvesting, new mining and exploration, domestic
    firewood collection, prospecting and hunting
.

Now that the Libs are "on the nose" Labor may have the numbers on their own without giving the "greens" whatever they want for the preferences.

SEVERE restrictions on bee keeping,

Bee keeping?

Those are really crazy.

Bees are essential for our survival in the ecosystem.

I wonder if they will place severe restrictions on european wasps and other invasive species  that infest our public lands and parks?

Part of the reply from the Andrews Government to the Veac report says

"We also understand that our goldrush started with intrepid prospectors and we will ensure they continue to have a place on public land through this review."

The lawyers worked over time on this sneaky worded reply
notice that it says "continue to have a place on public land"

That does not say we shall have access to prospect in 100% of the park, it only says we will have a place SOMEWHERE in Victoria to prospect.

The ALP has lost my vote in November .
