Hi All,

I recently posted this on a Canadian forum and then thought that it might be of interest closer to home as well…….the samples came out of Sailors Creek (Daylesford).

“We all like pictures of gold so I thought it might be of some general amusement to post this one. One day while panning down some alluvial stuff from a local stream a couple of quartz fragments resisted washing away. A closer look showed that they had some gold attached and that was the reason that they were a bit harder to move out of the pan. Possibly they are a couple of chunks that escaped in the past from a stamper/crusher before getting totally pulverized. Anyway, it's amazing what modern digital cameras can achieve in the Macro mode - the "specimens" in the picture are only about 2mm long, or less!, the magnified scratches on the black background give the game away.”

Cheers,

Hi Doug,

It is a Canon PowerShot G9. The lens (inbuilt) reads "Canon Zoom Lens 6x IS  7.4 - 44.4 mm  1:2.8-4.8". Choice was partly due to some Web reviews which suggested that it was particularly good in Macro mode. Seems to be correct!

Hi Onegram,

I see we are of the same kind (wet gold prospectors)....... and originall even from the same place in NSW!

You may be surprised that I guessed your id from your id here (ie the connection to the holy grail) so now you know who I am here.  Clown

Well done with those lovely specimens!  respect respect  They do look beautiful, especially when magnified. I recall you telling me about them before I left for Qld and an uncertain future. How things change!

Look forward to catching up with you soon and looking for more aurum in some aqua fortuitous sites.  smile

Huego  happy face

PS: I am also looking forward to seeing and using the latest QED soon ..... on dry land.
