Do you guys mind if I post this information over at DP forum so everyone over there knows what's going on? Some are eagerly following the progress of the QED.   I will credit it back to this forum.

I have spoken with Howard and he is ok with your request.

Hi all, Are the new updates available to everyone or just a few for testing.
I am in Tasmanian  and would test over here if needed.

Hi Fred,

The updates are now being rolled out in every new QED and are also available for existing owners by sending just the main control box back to Howard for update. The updates are free, you just pay the postage both ways.

A message from Howard re the upgrade

Some people have sent their detector box back for the upgrade and have removed the legs. This is fine as it fits in a smaller envelope...……. however.... self tapping screws have a down side, they can cross thread and chew out the hole. When replacing self tapping screws, push very hard with the screwdriver and rotate ANTI clockwise. When the thread and screw line up you will hear a click which means you can now change to clockwise direction. Keep in mind the screw is very hard steel and the case is much softer Aluminium so don't over tighten.

Hey Howard , Hope you read this.

I wasn't aware new GB method was live, but i'm not in a hurry so no bother....

Maybe have a single place were you post about what is in test(if you want) but more importantly , what goes live and when. this way you are ahead of the swell in terms of upgrades/ you can control when people send  their machines through....

Basically a company press release thread.

Hi Goldman,

Do you know the General area of WA?
I'm not after x marks the spot, just the general area, Eastern Kimberly, or the traditional Western goldfields

Thanks

The reason for the announcement delay was because the tester in the West was still sending in reports.
The other half of the upgrade, the ability to work with DD & CC coils was also still being tested.
Today I will put together an announcement.

Over the last few days I have done some testing of the QED fitted with a ML 11" Commander DD coil. The testing was done on my property near Maldon in central Victoria, and ranged from Tertiary gravels and Pliocene (ancient riverbed) to shallow Ordovician with ironstone reefs, dykes, surface quartz and red clay. I have detected gold up to 1/2 oz in this area.
The AGB settled at 180, but needed further adjustment to get perfect GB at 214. I then set THS-B at a barely audible threshold of 43 and then set THS-A at 50. This caused the threshold to increase noticeably, so I went back and reset THS-B to 45 which was better. Gain was then set at 6, and Mode was able to be run at 1, which I was unable to do with the mono coil. Pitch was set pretty low which is the tone that I prefer.
I was using a tiny bit of gold which my scales don't register, but was well under a gram, for my testing. The central band of the coil gave a good definite signal which I expected, but I was surprised at how the target gave a very good response on the coil edge, making it quite easy to pinpoint. Compared to the flat wound mono coil the response was not quite as good, but still impressive.
Where the big difference was most noticeable was in the smoothness and stability over changing ground, red clay and ironstone pebbles, where the detector was a breeze to use and required no constant GB adjustment. Target response was sharp and definite even in 'nasty' ground.
More in ground depth testing is probably required, but air tests showed only a small difference to the mono coil.
Testing was done with a speaker, so Bias may differ with headphones.

Would be interesting to see how a CC coil would go over the same ground.

The tester in WA had an interesting experience the other day with the upgraded QED as follows:

“In one area we couldn't achieve a good ground balance with the 4500 & 5000 thus they were very noisy, even by reducing the gain and the stabiliser.

The 2300 was very noisy as well and as a result couldn’t properly detect the area in question.

The QED on-the other hand could ground balance the ground much better and was quiet over the ground when ground balanced properly.”

This is exactly what Howard was trying to achieve with the revised GB, more stability over very hot, mineralised ground.

Interesting Goldman.

I wonder how much the reduced noise was due to ground balance and how much may have been the QED handling EMI better?

If the QED can GB over some hot ground that an SDC even struggles in then that will not be a small step forward, that will be a giant leap.  happy face

Have recently found some gold with the QED but the area is littered with hot rocks that can be annoying.  A mate with an SDC is having no issues with the hot rocks which is to be expected.

I wasn't rushing to get the update but if my hot rock count can be significantly lowered then maybe I had better hurry up!!

I see Blip has had his updated - might need to do some comparisons.

And thanks to Howard for the continual development.  He is surely not re-numerated properly for the hours he spends on development so it is a very selfless endeavour for the benefit of current and future owners

Id say he will be rewarded financially more so as time goes by...  as happy customers spread the word. There are many forms of advertising a company can do but word of mouth and good reviews can be some of the best. There may have been some negative feedback in the early days but it seems to me a lot of the bugs are getting sorted out. I'm a gpz user but I'm more interest than ever before in a QED as a machine to compliment what I already have.
