Some software and hardware updates now available for the QED.More  QED firmware updates (inc Auto GB  option) just announced here. New  QED hardware updates/options and pictures will be posted  first here  as they become available.

Another satisfied QED user! QED user report for 9 days detecting! User loves it, found it easy to use, found gold with it and he prefers it to his 5000! Also a report on a QED used at the beach for coin shooting.QED users reporting in with their multi ounce gold finds with the QED!
From  another QED user today:"Been out and about today testing and comparing against other machines etc in ground that has been horrible in the past.Bround balancing Ive found very simple and easy.'m using the Nokia booster but need a little more sound/threshold.Otherwise no complaints from me, very impressed."
and :"My QED with the 8” commander on it, out performed my SDC Got bits that don't register on my scales SDC has since been sold"
"My QED is terrific. Lightweight, very sensitive and screams at me when it hits any target. The Detect shaft and the 11" ultra sensing coil is a top quality fitout. I attached an external speaker which added under 200gms of weight in total and still remains very well balanced so i never feel fatigued after many hours of swinging."

Stinky  Pete :http://www.detech-metaldetectorsaustralia.com.au/ is the  Australian distributor for the QED.
This is the only forum where you can talk directly with the designer/ manufacturer of the QED and  also some very experienced QED users.
Jrbeatty and Reg Wilson  and  Yellowfin  (or Doug here for that matter!)have NO vested  or pecuniary interests(or secret deals or cash for comment or any other undisclosed benefits )in the QED other than using it to find gold which it is doing very successfully! The ONLY people deriving  an income from the QED(other than finding good gold) are the approved retailer and Bugwhiskers! The ONLY investor in the QED is Bugwhiskers!
I have never met Jrbeatty or Reg Wilson at Howards house or ANY other location!

Criky that was fast!

There is room on the rear endcap near the coil socket to mount a 1/4" audio socket. The 3.5mm socket on the board will have to be removed and wires run to the new socket.

The upgrade only takes about half an hour. Replace 1 capacitor, reprogram with new expanded functions and re-calibrate.
I am currently working on 2 possible versions of auto type GB.
The inclusion of the function to allow inversion of pitch by setting PITCH to an ODD or EVEN number is irksome in that it reverses other things. I am thinking of removing it and perhaps replacing after the auto GB is sorted. Feedback please.

Push button auto GB in my opinion should be the next top priority.
doug smile

Pitch control without the inversions would be the way to go as it will be easier to manage the major functions without worrying about whether they have been inverted or not.

The pitch inversion is gone from from the latest firmware and the pitch adjustment #8 now has a much better range.
The audio is output as Stereo so when using headphones both sides work.
The Auto GB has been added but not replaced the manual GB which can still be used.

So to be clear, the AGB replaces the need for the auto +/- 4 GB as was mooted earlier and it will not be included in the final list of upgrades.

Users can either Auto GB or manual GB. Auto GB will self adjust if the ground is a few counts out providing the same outcome/info as the +/-4 ground check.

Pete, you take vey good clips, your commentary is word perfect. Well Done, keep them coming for sure. smile

My QED is terrific. Lightweight, very sensitive and screams at me when it hits any target. The Detect shaft and the 11" ultra sensing coil is a top quality fitout. I attached an external speaker which added under 200gms of weight in total and still remains very well balanced so i never feel fatigued after many hours of swinging.

QED is my 2nd detector purchased but my 1st choice when heading out there for a gold hunt. So far no gold found as i have been checking out areas that have no history of gold finds but i have found many coins and other artifacts which excites me just the same.

My QED is one of the best purchases i have made in 2017 and i do and will continue to speak highly about it and all those clever people involved with it. I will send it back for the full upgrade later in the year and i hope to post some picks and clips of finds too.

If you are new to this hobby/sport/ activity like me and you want to support this Aussie invention and get yourself out of the cities and into the great country of ours, you should consider seriously a QED to accompany you on your next camping trip whether it be the bush or the beach.

Cheers Al

Thanks for sharing Al.
Development still continues. Just yesterday I added a few lines to the firmware that automatically changes the current screen to GB/Adjust whenever the Auto GB button is pressed. Any updates to the firmware are available for just the cost of the postage. Hardware changes eg. new front and rear endcaps are yet to be costed.

Will there be a new set of instructions / handbook  issued to cover all the new features ?

Menu item #9 SMR has been added.
The default value is 107. Adjusting SMR can be used to null out 50Hz mains EMI that is off frequency.
It may also me used to null out other rythmic EMI sources.

Menu item #5 MODE has been extended. The range is now 1 to 15. Use the lowest MODE number that the ground will allow. If the ground is very hot or changeable don't hesitate to increase MODE to 15.

Menu item #8 pitch has been altered. The previous firmware allowed inversion of audio if an odd (1,3,5 etc) ws selected. This option has been removed to simplify things. Small targets will be rising pitch and large targets falling pitch. There is now a very large range of pitch change to suit any taste.

Auto GB. A 4th button is required to activate it.
Manual GB is still availble.
Procedure.
1: Hold the coil about 15" off the ground, press and hold the AGB button while lowering the coil.
2: The GB Button MUST be released when the coil is about 1" from the ground. This first procedure is always required if the current GB setting is far different from the current ground.
3: Take note of which direction (up or down) of the Ground Balance number changed.
4: For minor GB adjustments press and hold the GB button and bob the coil up and down to the ground.
5: If a minor precision adjustment is required use the manual GB procedure aided by procedure 3:

The new front end cap for the early detectors also has a new/different screen board. If people are capable and want to wire up the rear end cap themselves then they are free to do so.
