I have found my first Gold!!

Just about a ounce!! thats what the kitchen scales tell me anyway..
I might have to get some Gold scales of Ebay now!!
It took me just over 12 month to get the first piece and i ended up with about 20 of them today, the biggest about 8 grams.

Woohoo!!!

I cant wait to get back out there!! Sunday cant come quick enough..

Another question.
Whats a easy way to crack the conglomerat Bedrock??
It looks like Cement, rocks and dirt really hard compressed, and at least 2 places we dug down to it and had big signals but where not able to crack it with our picks..

The Nuggets where all raw and not rounded at all..
Thats normally a sign that it has not travelled as yet, isnt it??

Hi Sharke,

WoW! Congratulations on your find! Nothing better than the feeling of finding your first nugget and to find 20 in one day :o You must be over the moon! Well done!

I would try a decent crowbar or a chisel and hammer to break up the conglomerate.

What sort of detector are you using?

Cheers Mick

sharke

hi Mick

so its not that hard after all if you can get through with a chisel... Great News!!!!

I am using a 2200 V2, good little machine i reckon!! Has picked up loads of Bullets in teh Past and now Gold!

Hi Doug

Here a Pic from it. the biggest is about 8 grams the smallest nearly invisible

How do i insert the Pic? I see the insert Picture tab but i cant seem to be able to attach it..

Alluvium

Hi Sharke,

Congratulations on your finds, you must have what it takes to keep trying for so long.

That cap rock / cement / conglomerate is tough alright.  Over the next day or so I will post a diagram of the crowbar we use.  It should do the job for you too.

At least it is legal and not a generator and electric jack hammer as many use over there.

Cheers  Alluvium

Hi Sharke,

Here is the crow bar details, it is great for digging holes in very hard ground, it's worth spending the time to make one, or have a mate knock one up. (Use a quality heavy round Crow Bar) Cut the knob off the top.

It can be used without the mild steel weight for easier going, or carrying  in the vehicle.

But if you want more grunt, fix the weight with Hex, grub screws.  This will punch it down in the gravels etc.

When your hole is about 1 foot deep or more, you use the Lever this is(a bracket or even cut and weld one from 1/4"in. plate), use this to lever off the edge or side of the hole.

If you want you can use it like a jack hammer by sliding the weight up and down the crow bar, you can get a lot of force this way.

Watch your fingers, and wear safety goggles etc in cemented ground.

Good luck in the future.

Cheers  Alluvium.

Thanks Alluvium

Looks interessting and might just be worth making!!

What did you use as the weight? Big Steel thing??

Thanks for sharing that!!!!

Hi Alluvium. I believe this is the magic crowbar that Ironbark Bill used with great effect.  ;D ;D
Couple or comments: As you said, the quality of the round crowbar must be high (good steel and well tempered) so that it springy and does not bend. Otherwise the steel weight won't slide easily or fall as it must to be effective in a hammer operation. I guess the lump of steel can be anything as long is about this size ie weight and can be gripped easily. Sharke, the hole may need to be drilled in a workshop and welding done properly.

Alluvium, what colour do you suggest painting it?   :D  It also deserves a name!   -  I suggest YELLOW  & call it the "Yellow Peril"

Don't be surprised if its copied by the Chinese!  ;D

What is the purpose of the high tensile pin in the upper collar when it is welded to the bar?

Cheers Huego

PS: Doug perhaps ths post on a crow bar etc can be posted on a new forum "Tools for detecting" or "Accessories" - what do you think?

Hi Alluvium,
This is a beautiful crowbar,  I've got a similar one, but not quite as big as yours.  The whole length of your crowbar is 16.5 Meter long??  The bolster is 1.8 meter long??  And the bolster is 1.2 meter wide??  And the top weight is 4.5 meter long??That beast would be hard to handle.  Cheers,  Hermann.

Zed Troy

G`day Alluvium

I noticed at bunnings that some of the crowbars already have a wedge type bolster already
attached to the end of the crowbar, would you recommend these or is it better to piff it off and put your own bolster on.

Hi Boys,

Sharke the weight was from round stock mild steel and was drilled on a lathe, as Huego said you could use any heavy configuration as a weight or slide weight.  Yes Huego Iron bark Bill has one too, the high tensile pin is added safety, the welds take a great pounding with that big mother coming to a full stop on this collar.

I think it should be called "The friendly Persuader".            I also think it could be posted under a heading,

"Tools required for detecting".

Herman don't be a smart - - - -, you know what I mean, CM stands for centimetres, when I went to school it was all feet and inches, you cut your teeth on the metric system.

Zed, Did you know most of Bunnings gear comes directly from China,  A top quality Bar is the go, with a Cyclone bolster welded on it.

Cheers Alluvium.

Alluvium,

I just seen today what sort of a Crowbar i need!!
The scaler they use underground might be just right!! I might have to "borough" one of these...  ;)

Bloody work is still getting in the way but come Saturday there wont be any holding me back !!

sharke

Hi Guys!

I was able to nock of early today and so i went back to teh Patch! :)
All was the way we left it  ;D

We located the spots with the strong signals dug to the conglomerate and started to chisel away on the stuff!
Was a bit of work and it turned out both where Nuggets about 8grams heavy imbedded in the conglomerat.

Nothing big but within the 2.5h there i found about 15 small nuggets about 15gramms all up.
all from the same patch about 5m x 8m big.

reason to go back there many more times id say...

my next surface brale will start next Wednesday! Woohoo

By the way, all the nuggets from there are coarse and not round or smooth.
That means they have not travelled as yet is that right?
Does that mean there could/should be a Reef somewhere??

Have a great Weekend all!!
