Climate news
Contribution to global warming by Australia. Australia has one of the highest per capita emissions of carbon dioxide in the world, with 0.3% of the world's population it produces 1.4% and rising(not the .08% the  finders forum dope "Inhere" claims!) of the world's greenhouse gases. Australia also has the highest per capita emissions in the OECD, with 26 tonnes of greenhouse gasses being emitted per person every year.
Australia's C02 emissions rise for the 4th year in a row.

Good report Northeast, I’m especially glad that my tips have helped in some way to make your QED experience a positive one.

Another interesting review, thanks for sharing Northeast.

In regards to the in-ground tests results, when you changed over from the 20" Advantage coil to the 11" Ultra coil did you just end up using the same THS-B,THS-A & MODE settings for both coils?

Gary.

Thanks for the feedback gents.

Gary - nope, changed everything up to suit.  With the 11" factory defaulted, THS-B down, Mode was left at 3 from memory and THS-A around 50.  I've pretty much been getting the threshold as barely, barely audible and then turning it up via the Wire Free Mate volume control.

20" was Mode 15 and THS-B up to try and optimise the larger targets.

Goldman - yes your tips have been helpful - thanks again   smile

Phrunt - you don't need anymore detectors

A Russian mob, not sure if they are known as anything else but X coils.  GPZ production coils are already out and GPX suited monos are at prototype stage. It is only a guess at this stage but probably should be suitable for QED?

A couple a decent threads by davsgold on PA and DP forum them.

The QED is very tolerant of out of spec MONO coils.
Cancel coils work very well.
DD coils work but very poorly.

Hi BW, does the QED use both pins 1 and 5 on the coil connector for the mono coil ?

Hi BW, does the QED use both pins 1 and 5 on the coil connector for the mono coil ?

Let me rephrase that, does the QED use pins 1 and 5 for the coil ground connection ?

Yes, that's the standard.

Recently i received my 3rd upgraded QED via Stinky Pete @ Detech. The latest version came with the Logitech X5O mobile wireless speaker and an demo 8" ultra sensing coil. The speaker has and continues to perform very well and over several hours before requiring a recharge. No feedback to report and quite versatile so i recommend it without hesitation.

The 8" coil performs best for me on modes 1 & 2. The batteries supplied have lasted around 7 hours before a recharge. The most charge i can boot into these batteries is 8.53volts and that is from the 240v mains supply. It takes longer to charge via 12v but eventually gets there. The 11" ultra sensing coil works best for me on mode 3 but i have more fiddling to do with TH-A & TH-B to get optimum performance. I am a newbie so i expect it will take time to narrow down the "sweet spots".

In the field the QED constantly hits targets. Mainly rising to lowering signals which have revealed junk items such as nails and lead shot. I carry a gold sample with me which i use to measure where i am at in comparing targets.

Of course probability suggests to me that the more experience i have with the QED then i will produce some Gold. Accompanying with my trips is a pin pointer which certainly help narrow down those small metallic things i am recovering.

I have to send a big shout out to Pete@Detech. Excellent customer service and shares an abundance of knowledge too.I highly recommend the bloke and i am saving some money to take a trip down that way. I would benefit greatly from some hands on tuition and it would be a pleasure if i could coordinate that trip by meeting up with bugs too.

Meanwhile, i am taking up the QED to anyone interested in the hobby. I hope i can back up my testimonials with evidence of finds.

I am a happy camper and grateful to be part of this forum where i pick up lots of little tips which i attempt to use in the field.

Regards to all here  thumbs up!

Thanks algore for your post.

You shouldnt have fiddle with B and A. Just set to what you want to achieve and it should be good to go. Read Brians tips on THS-B null, below and above. Ihave my A set so i can just hear it through the earbuds, Wireless Mate and amp which has me setting it at 70. Yes my 11” Commander mono is happy at mode 3, gain 5.

Today i had the 20” Nugget Finder smooth on mode 6!

I welcome any criticisms to my settings.

Cheers guys.

Regarding speakers:

I was using Sennheiser HD-25 Headphones 70 ohms. I didn't mind being tethered to them. In fact they are incredibly sensitive but i lost spacial awareness while wandering around so going to the wireless logitech X50 became a wiser choice. Its horses for courses i suppose and an individual choice.

Thanks Blip, i have checked out Brian's post on TH-B & A.

Goldman, your supplementary information is very comprehensive & extremely appreciated by me. Respect.

Aussiedigs (Blip)

You cannot go wrong with ARALDITE.
Just make sure you give both surfaces a sand before glueing.

In regards to you going down on your arse LOL
That's always a possibility when prospecting steep and slippery hills.
Good luck with digging up your first gold colours (gold)

Gold nuggets are called once they are 20 ounces +
As Reg Wilson would say.

As for Reginald, i think hes ok for a cranky bugger. He has at least two good traits - he will offer assistance easily, more than most and hes a whisky drinker! Im sure he had input into helping me with my QED initially. I cant forget that. Very few people put that effort in to assist others. The older i get, the less i can hold grudges.

20oz before its a nugget? Yeah well geez reading of back when i can understand why!  excited
