"In dealing with difficult ground it is always a situation of compromise, and so it is with the QED. With the extended mode of the latest PL2 this problem has been reduced, but I have noted that some users are reluctant to increase the mode, fearing that this will have a detrimental effect on sensitivity. The mode can be increased quite dramatically with little reduction of sensitivity or penetration, especially if the gain is increased slightly to compensate."
I wonder if Mbasko or Rickty  or some others know about this or appreciate its significance in very difficult  ground?

Ricky decided that he knows best and declined twice for guidance on how to get the best out of the QED's ability.

Some of the posts on this forum are starting to become a bit 'grubby'. I suggest some posters might like to tone it down a bit as it reflects badly on the forum and its members. It also has a detrimental effect on the acceptance of the QED, and undermines the hard work put in by some of us to make the QED a success.
I encourage all who have an axe to grind to go over to Halfarse's forum, where there are no rules, and a good mud fight is the norm.
Please take this in good faith as it is meant for the benefit of all on this forum.

Guys, its gotta stop. This is not supportive of the QED. Its actually damaging. How do i know? Im new to detecting. Ive been looking for a good PI within my budget. Reading the bullshit made me really question the QED. Ive been messaged by others with the same concerns. Rise above the bullshit FFS! Who gives two hoots what he/she said? Im telling you now. If those involved with the QED, whether its Howard, anyone involved in its development or just a swinger ignored the pathetic negativity, those considering the QED would see this as a professional serious competitor above the crap that ensues.

As a neutral outsider, i cant stress enough...its gotta stop!

Fully agree with Reg and Blip. Tone it down some of you, you're doing far more harm than good.

The QED will stand on it's own merits. Looks like New Zealand is a natural fit for it - now for the US!

Hi all,

I agree with both Reg and Blip. Go over to the other forum and sling mud if you must, just do not do it here.

We all want this forum to be about the QED, how to use it, to report finds, etc and to promote the QED openly and fairly to others, no matter where they are in the world.

So let’s get back to discussing the QED itself and rise above the people bashing, otherwise offending posts will be moderated.

Cheers Goldman

SD220d,

Even if they couldnt, new members, including myself, dont want to read it.

There are two really cluey blokes who are members here that are putting out there very positive feedback on the PL2. I cant stress enough that the negativity in here read by whoever will only put up with it for so long. Its only human nature to turn after enough negativity. Leave it for the kids to dummy spit in the sand pit!

I agree with Reg that increasing Mode to deal with difficult ground is the way to go. My testing has shown that you lose very little by increasing mode, even to 15 with small coils. After increasing mode, always review your Gain setting with the view to run with as much Gain as possible without being noisy.

Another option that can be used in combo with the above strategy or just by itself is to review your THS-B setting and if in difficult ground, adjust THS-B closer to NULL.

I am currently working on a revised/improved Ground Balance method.
The previous GB methods performed 24 *short TX and 12 * Long TX.

The received signals are then averaged, massaged in software and sent on to the audio circuitry.

When it comes to averaging, the greater the numbers one has to work with the better/more realistic the result.
In a business for example you can't just use one months sales, the sales over many months provide a more realistic result.
What is different in the new GB method is instead of the 24 short TX's, each TX is increased in length(strength).
This results in a greater range of different signals to average and leads on to better GB because its working with a larger input range.

I posted the method in public with a copyright notice to prevent other companies who make way too much profit stealing it.
