Hi everyone,
If you were to spend your hard earned on a small coil for the QED, which coil would you choose. The contenders would have to be the Sadie, 8” commander or perhaps the new 9” elite.
Or are there any other contenders.
Obviously one can’t buy every coil out there, so I’m looking for your experience in regards to the above question.

Cheers Goldman

I agree with D777 as my 8" Commander works a treat on my QED.

I ended up selling my Sadie 8"x 6" coil as it appeared for me to be too sensitive to high mineralised ground with my GPX 5000 although since using the QED it has been capable of handling very high mineralised ground very well therefore I would expect the QED to handle the Sadie even better than my 5000 over such conditions.

As far as the 9"  Elite I have not read any reports yet with this coil on the QED although there has been good reports with its larger brothers 11" & 14" on the QED. Now if we are to believe what said in regards to the ELITE series that it improves depth & sensitivity when compared to a standard wound similar sized coil of up to an extra 30% then would we have to say then it would out gun my Commander 8" standard wound coil.

I suppose that is the decision you will have to make, maybe if you can get hold of a Commander 8" demo coil, an 9" Elite demo or even a Sadie 8"x 6" demo and run some comparison tests for yourself with your QED before you buy.

I would be interested in the results as no doubt other QED operators here as well.

Gary.

I already have the 11” elite and it is an extremely good coil on the QED, so having  coils from the same stable (elite) might be advantageous. I’m able to run the 11” in mode 3 nearly all the time, with either B neutral or low, or with A (very) high.

I have the 8" commander, and the 9" Elite. Both very good on the QED. Elite super sensitive, but brings up a lot of hotrocks, which can be sorted.

Actually with Reg mentioning Hot Rocks then as I recall now that was the major problem I had with the Sadie on my 5000.

Running the NF Evolution coils you will find that you cannot use mode 1 on the qed,  but using a NF Sadie coil you can run it in mode 1.
Mode 1 is good for fine gold, prickly gold and specimens.
I'm not sure how the 9" or the 11" elite coils,  if they can be run in mode 1, but being flat wound coils they might have the same problem.?

In a couple of days I hope to post some videos of the 12" * 4" capsule shaped coil made by IBGold. It's quite outstanding when it comes to its light weight and performance. How about 2"+ on a 0.033g (1/30th gram) nugget and 33" on a beer can without changing any settings. And the best part is you can move forward 9" on each swing allowing patches to be found much faster.

Impressive results BW.

In regards to my 8" Commander on the QED I have found Mode 1 too sensitive for me over extreme ground conditions.

Having a coil that can be used for a multi purpose (patch hunter,  small gold and larger gold) is a coil worth having, this is indeed a coil that provides great bang for the $.

Hi Reg,
Can you operate your 9" elite coil in mode 1 on the qed?

mines too noisy over here in mode 1, but there are a few places ive been able too just use it in mode 1 though, mode 3 to 6 sometimes even 8, all depends how bad ground is. the hotter the ground the higher the mode is the way ive been using the qed. just sold my 4000 and purchased a second qed .... have the pl2 now and modded sd2000, and still change left over.  thumbs up!

The problem is getting regular supply of quality constituents. Litz wire, coax, plugs etc. Someone may take up the challenge.

Yep D777, what I have found where I detect.

Interesting you've got yourself a modified SD2000 which was my first PI.
I ended up getting it fully modified by Issy Jones in WA including his variable adjustable voltage regular enabling the detector to be fed with extra voltages....As well a VCO to adjust for additional frequencies..... Also additional GAIN adjustment for BALANCE 1 & BALANCE 11....And additional Ground Balance adjustment.

Mechanic who use to post here is the man who also knows the ins and outs of the SD2000.
