8" Commander gets my vote  thumbs up!

Mal

Can you detect with your 8" commander in mode 1 most of the time?

Yes, most of the time I use mode 1

Mal

Thanks Mal.
Have you dug any deep targets using mode 1 with the 8" coil?

The gold I have found using Mode 1 with the 8" have been very, very small gold.
In fact I detected my smallest bit ever using it, and considered it deep v it's size, about 2" down.
Picked up a coin and a button at around (not Measured) 8" with it.

Will see if I can upload a picture of my smallest bit ever.

777,
The 2000 is original with the standard DD coil and the 18” ‘garbage can lid’ DD.
The headphones are a bit ratty; and of course no original battery.

I believe my brother is asking $1000.00

Cheers Goldman

After testing the 9"Elite I can now say that it can be run in mode 1, however to do so the bias needs to be neutral, or very close to it, the gain must be wound right back, and the ground balance has to be spot on and changed at any variation. In mild ground it ran fairly well and super sensitive, but it 'talks' quite a bit. Increasing the mode made it a much more pleasant experience, and brought out less ground noise and false signals, with only very slight loss of sensitivity.
For hunting proven ground at a slow and careful pace the very low mode will make tiny deep targets jump out, but for 'skimming', the mode needs to go up as high as 8 to make it pleasant for faster ground coverage. This is a good coil for both slow and faster detecting as long as it is tuned for the task at hand.
I hope this has been of some help.

Thanks Reg, great report. Makes the 9” a buying proposition for an experienced QED operator.

That tiny bit was @ a measured 2" deep, my SDC could not get a signal over it
and was sold not long after.

Yes the flat wound coils are very sensitive and as you said,  the qed needs gb in variable ground.

You're right about getting bigger gold.

I had my sdc for 6 months before before I got rid of it and started getting heavier gold and deeper too.  happy face

I hear there is a small party heading up North soon hoping for a "brag worthy" lump.

Ran some QED setting tests with my 8" Commander on 2 nuggets a 2 gram and 0.2 gram and the best result was THS-B 47, THS-A 60, GAIN 1 (being inside house) & MODE 15 so go figure that.

Therefore lowering THS-A to 60 from a higher THS-A setting allows for lower THS-B setting for extra sensitivity to both sized nuggets even with the MODE up at 15 which should help to tame cranky ground and then able to lift the GAIN further when out in the goldfield.

Forget flea poo gold. Use small 11" or 12" spiral as least size and still pick up fly speck and still go deeper

A pic of QED with Sadie coil finds over the past 2 days in the Smythesdale area.

Approximately 5.2 more hauls like this will see the QED finish paying for itself.

The Sadie and the QED is a great combo, good sized colour and yes much easier to pay off a QED than the other more expensive detectors.
