Title: QED PL4 - a labour of love
Post by: QEDforMe on Sunday February 21 2021 14:03:31 AEDT PM
Hi all,

Complete novice and newby here.

I’ve been detecting for a couple of years (when I can around 2 children). My detecting to date has been with a minelab gold monster and browse I have might I haven’t been able to afford a pulse induction device. I know of qed for a few years and naturally because of the price point, and the value for money for such a versatile device, the qed is the device for me.

As a newby - I can’t help but notice some things and probably am making assumptions already! But the first thing I’ve come to note is that the qed came to fruition from a group of people who wanted a device which handled local terrain. From what I can see the idea has grown, been fostered, vigorously discussed (perhaps too vigorously at times!), and somewhere along the line something magical happened where a device actually was born (Qed PL1).

I know nothing how that was received or how it happened. And I don’t know anything of the journey from there to the device I’m about to purchase - QED PL4. I haven’t spoken or met the maker (whoever normally does?!) and haven’t even spoke to the dealers over the phone. I have more questions than answers but perhaps that doesn’t matter - as what matters is that I’m soon to land a device I can afford which actually has some balls to support my hobby!

Anyway - with all my research/browsing the thing that strikes me is this device was born when the odds were stacked against; perhaps even heavily stacked. I wouldn’t have bet against a first model being produced let alone a new 4th model. Somewhere, somehow some real heart, soul, energy, and copious amount of time went into this thing. I know nothing really in comparison to the development of this thing - the electronics are a complete mystery, What even is a 3D printer, the business model of the maker and dealers unknown, the thirst of the community which have led to its development, and the time all this has taken to get to a release of the 4th model. How many hours has this taken - The answer probably unknown?!

Anyhow - if I’m parting with my money I’m buying a device with balls, with soul and spirit. And I feel better knowing it’s Australian made - I might have easily purchased an overseas model and not really cared, but the fact it is an Australian built machine of heart will make every sweep while I’m looking for the nugget of my dreams even better!

Cheers to all involved!

Ps what does -

-Qed mean?
-PL mean?
-Interfacion mean?
-How does one even learn how to make a working gold detecting beast?
-Is the maker a rich eccentric gold hound?
-do you know if you purchased a pl1 that if you had instead spent that money on bitcoin at the time you would have made 10000x moRe money than all of your finds?

There is no such thing as a "GOLD" detector. It's just marketing spin and propaganda.
Bitcoin could drop just as fast as it has risen.
