Howard and I have been discussing recently the options and combinations of settings available with the QED, and how unexpected results have been obtained by experimentation.
Some of you may be familiar with the settings used on the GPX by Bogene. He went outside the factory recommendations, and came up with some settings that at first seemed to defy logic, but proved to be quite effective. There is still debate about 'Bogenes settings', however many swear by these settings as a means to get the results that count.
As to the QED, it now seems that like Bogenes settings there are combinations that hitherto have not been widely explored, but can produce surprising results.
I am interested in hearing from QED users what settings they have discovered that work for them.

You like to run the mode a lot higher than would be accepted as normal with a low pitch, higher gain and bias above 50?

Would be really interested in trying a low pitch, it’s something I haven’t tried as yet, and in combo with a high bias.

This question was asked “What is the order that you adjust the various menu options for QED?

Reg replied so I have arranged his reply into 6 steps
.

Step 1. Start at Ground Balance, using AGB to get close enough to start with.

Step 2. Next is THS-B (pre-set 50) so if I am using a small coil I go down the scale until the threshold starts to rise, say 47 or so. If that is a bit noisy I may back it off a bit.

Step 3. Next setting is THS-A (pre-set 30) and using the phones that I do I find that is OK, but you may like to dial it up until it suits you.

Step 4. Next is GAIN and MODE which need to be in balance, so leaving the GAIN ( pre-set 1)  adjust the MODE to as low as possible to suit the coil I am using, so that the detector is not sounding off all over the place. Once I have it smooth in the MODE, I then go back to GAIN to see how high I can set that and still have it running smoothly. The combination of MODE and GAIN is important in getting a sensitive yet stable situation.

Step 5. Finally I go back to Ground Balance using MGB to manually adjust that until it is spot on.

Step 6. In noisy ground don't be afraid to up your MODE quite high, as it will not compromise sensitivity much at all.

In regards to settings that work for me then I prefer as high THS-A setting as I can 60 – 90, the higher the better.

If I can I’ll use 90 and leave the GAIN on 1 until I am comfortable with the THS-B and MODE settings to produce the best response with the Coil size I am using for the size of nuggets I am chasing.

Then if the ground allows I will raise the GAIN as high as possible.

In regards to PITCH then a lower setting can help as in the past I have had it set at 10 although since the latest update the pitch tone even down at 1 does not seem as low as previously, well to my hearing anyway, so I tend to leave it up at FP of 25. However will have to try using a lower PITCH again.

ths a - 85 to 90.... ths b - always on 50....... mode - 8 sometimes 6 ..... gain 5 to 7 ..... everything else left as standard. these settings work on all my coils, 8" commander, 11" commander, 12" nf, 17"x11" coiltek, 20"nf. all seem to work great on the above settings, only thing i need to change is the gain.  good luck
