Doug is right on  climate change! The evidence, the physics and the overwhelming majority of climate scientists publishing in  recognized peer reviewed scientific journals agree that the earth is warming due predominately to  rising atmospheric  levels of anthropogenic C02!

G'day everyone!

I'm new here, having popped over from the other great detector design forum whose name shall remain anonymous, at Doug's invitation.

I'm based in the Yarra valley, northeast of Melbourne. It's kinda close to some really interesting historical gold prospecting areas (we're between Warrandyte and Wood's Point, for example), and there's even an active mine not far (~5km) from where I write this. I'm trying to arrange a visit, to get a feel for the area. It's mainly reef gold, from all accounts, but I'm sure there are nuggets waiting to be found!

I'm actually more interested in meteorites, having a strong astronomy background. So that pretty much defines my detector requirements - shallow iron chondrites, probably with a lot of nickel, and I don't want to miss any fairly shallow gold. I sense a lot of digging in my future... :)

I'm an ex-PC guru, coming from about 30 years in the industry, all self-taught. I last worked at HP Australia, as their PC go-to guy (hence my old nickname, PC Pete!). I've moved into the MCU area lately, as PC specialisation is pretty much a dying art. Gone are the days when discussions of interrupt controller internals would help people - now it's which motherboard and chipset, everything else is buried in proprietary silicon.

I'm an ex-biker, with an enormous amount of titanium holding the upper part of my spine together (and no, you can't have it, I need it! ;)). I also have an implanted intrathecal drug pump in my chest, delivering hyper-concentrated opioids directly into the spinal fluid, and I also have an implanted neural stimulator, which helps alleviate nerve-root damage. So I'm basically semi-retired, but my passion for electronics keeps me sane. Relatively sane. Mostly sane. You know...

My main passion is circuit design and fabrication. To that end, I use Altium Designer 6.1, which I use about 10% of, but it's the useful 10% - schematic design and capture, PCB layout, with some autorouting, but I much prefer manual routing, as I know a hell of a lot more than the autorouter!

To that end, I'm making my schematic and PCB design skills (such as they are - I'm free, so you get what you pay for!) available for anyone who's interested. So if you have a schematic you'd like redrawn, or a PCB designed from a schematic, then I'd be delighted to help out. Now, as I'm just one person, I'm not going to be able to create dozens of designs and make PCBs all day and night... but if you need a PCB designed and/or fabricated, I may be able to help.

I'm looking forward to participating in this community, and asking a LOT of VERY DUMB questions! This is because, while I have an extremely good grounding in theory and practice of electronic fundamentals (thanks to 2 years training at Telecom Australia in the 1980s), I'm quite dysmathic (can't make numbers work all that well). That means I can improve the hell out of a design, but in terms of calculating bandwidth products, CMMR effects, multiple-pole filters, or stuff like that, I'm a dunderhead. True story. :)

I really hope I can help some folks out if they need it, and perhaps add something positive to the community.

Thanks for reading this far,
