Yesterday I was  out with our flyfishing club  and  I was fly fishing the upper Yarra river ar Warburton Vic. Despite having a wading staff and using proper wading boots with cleats  and felt soles I still managed to go fo a swim and  now  also have a sore back and a bruised knee! The river is very rocky and the rocks are very slippery so care should be taken in wading rivers like this particularly when the rocks are so slippery. I also found that its very demanding physically for a  very skinny 68 year old like  me to wade and then to clamber up and down steep banks with waders and a fly vest and net and  also walk quite long distances  between pools in the heat! The only person that caught some trout was a new American club member who caught them on a fly pattern which none of us had!!
A very sore and tired doug!

Hi Doug
Sorry to hear that, I saw a lot off people go under on the same river including myself.
On that place we had to cross the river to get to a island, water levels were very critical.
Everybody had a swimm on that place, on a hot day its ok, fished in underwear for a couple off houres.
At least we don't have crocs.
Good luck and take care.

I have panned in that general area of the Upper Yarra and found it risky / slippery on the rocks. :ike you I have slipped many times in rivers on rocks and felt embarrased sore and sorry for myself afterwards. On a hot day its not so bad but on a cold day, with fast water, it is much less pleasant.

At least being skinng you offer less resistance to water flow.

Not when you are wearing waders, wading boots and a heavy fly vest!
