Spiral wound coils are all the rage at the moment as they have proven advantages  of more depth/sensitivity to small gold compared the old bundle wound coils of the same  diameter. But are they best coils to use in all ground  types? The answer is NO! In highly mineralized  variable ground containing magnetic soil ferrite the old bundle wound coils will give  more depth(better S/N) on larger gold. I believe that ML will come out with some patented spiral wound coils that will overcome most of  problems of using them in  highly mineralized  variable ground containing magnetic soil ferrite and leave all other spiral wound coils in the dust!

Here is the patented spiral coil winding. You won't get this info from PP,s new underground "forum" :85: !

If you use modified detectors with more gain then spiral wound coils are a poor choice for deeper and larger targets in  variable and highly mineralized magnetic  soils.

He says  that their are  reports that the Coiltek elite coils performance is  underwhelming on the gpx5000 unmodded and  modded.  Well if the coils are used over very hot and  variable magnetic  ferrite soils then the underwhelming performance perhaps is a product of the winding methods  not in my  opinion lack of R@D.
